Water Power Group Works with Aboriginal Communities in Canada

Based in Toronto, Water Power Group is a renewable energy company that works with Aboriginal communities in Ontario. They are a founding B Corporation in Canada and have received pretty impressive scores when it comes to governance and environment: 89% and 92% respectively.

Values lead the way in the business model that emphasizes sustainability when it comes to economic success. The benefits to renewable energy and hydroelectric projects are well-known at this point but less emphasized sometimes is how hydropower projects can affect the communities who live in the changed areas. First Nations communities can invest in Water power Group’s projects and also take part in the decision-making process. There is also a priority placed on being able to sustain activities, for instance, kayaking and fishing.
