The Vogue US July 2012 ‘Risky Business’ editorial has opted for a doll-like display of supermodels Lara Stone and Joan Smalls. The robotic movement that is somehow captured here is different from that which is observed in humans. Jagged gestures are the rule in this photoshoot, breaking down the fluidity that typically characterizes the work of Stone and Smalls.

Exaggerated blown-out hairdos appear to have a life of their own in Risky Business, a product of stylist Camilla Nickerson’s vision. Sleek, futuristic apparel also reinforced the mechanical nature of this Vogue US set. The seamless capture of these motifs could have only been mastered by a pair of photographers like Mert & Marcus, the very visionaries behind Risky Business.
