Ferrari chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo delivers a vision keynote where he is “not here to sell, but here to help you dream.” Years of experience leading an international luxury brand has allowed Montezemolo to come to the conclusion that behind fantastic products, there needs to be fantastic people, which is easy to say, but difficult to do. By breaking down his leadership style into three key elements, Montezemolo shares the secret to Ferrari’s success.
The first element is passion, because this drives creativity which forces leaders to look ahead and want to the be the first client of their product. Second is vision; the job of a leader is to put people in the best position to succeed. This can be done by giving them clear goals and priorities, as well as allowing them the possibility to move up in a company. Through training and open opportunities, there can be internal growth within the company allowing for people to have the company’s best interest at heart. Thirdly, Montezemolo believes leaders need to be demanding, this encourages employees to come to them with new ideas and proposals.
