This crowdsourced clip shot at the Le Mans race in France is pretty amazing, and it’s all thanks to the Vyclone app. For a gearhead like myself, it’s especially exciting to watch the entire first lap of stellar race in a seamless, beginning to end format. This is a small taste of a genre of filmmaking—crowdsourced/interactive filmmaking—that will be more prevalent in the years to come.

Social films are by no means a new concept. However, as technology continues to permeate each facet of our lives, it opens the door for a new way of doing things. Enter the Vyclone app. It allows users to shoot clips and then stitch them together using a simple video editing tool. You can stitch together multiple clips from the same event using videos from others in the audience. The end result is your own personal social film.

Recently, Intel and Toshiba partnered to create a social film called The Beauty Inside. The concept takes social filmmaking a step further by appealing directly to audiences to submit user-generated videos for their chance to star in the film. It’s interesting to see social media’s influence on filmmkaing and how modern technology plays a role.

Be sure to head over to The Beauty Inside Facebook page to submit your audition. Who knows, you could be the Web’s next star.
