Nifty Nautical Naviators
The Sailing GPS Uses Bluetooth Wind Monitoring to Plot Courses

By: Sarah Moore (Star) Apr 11, 12

The Sailing GPS makes charting a course on the open water more accurate by incorporating the tacking that sailboats encounter (essentially, how they rock back and forth) which is generally not taken into consideration by traditional navigational systems.

Using Bluetooth Wind Monitoring, the system can better estimate what points in the water will cause a boat to tack, which angles to take to avoid them and make better time and thus, will give a more accurate estimated time of arrival.

The sailor can also connect wirelessly to Google Maps to note waypoints and direction rather than having to enter into one’s latitude/longitude which can be tedious and time-consuming.

A waterproof DryPak is included with the device to anchor it to the vessel and prevent it from getting soaked. The navigator is also easy to read in direct sunlight as well as being buoyant, so there will be no fear of losing the device if it goes overboard.
