The Rutgers Social Media Information Lab has developed and released The Beat, a website that will now add geo-tags to Instagram photos. The tags are linked to Google’s Street View tool, pairing the snapshots with images of the exact region in which they were taken.
Precise addresses are written across the top of the pictures. The feature takes online sharing to new levels, eliminating a crucial sense of privacy.
Users of The Beat can direct their searches in accordance with hashtags, allowing followers of the site to obtain a series of locations that are sorted in accordance with a specific theme. It is in this way that followers have tracked Christmas trees, sandwiches and even girls clad in pink bikinis.
