Dreamlike Self-Portraits
The 'Surreal-ity' Series by Kylie Woon Evokes Emotive Reflection

By: Alexandra Serrano (Star) Jul 30, 12

Toying with dream-like imagery, the ‘Surreal-ity’ Series by Kylie Woon is astonishing in its ability to evoke emotion.

The self-portrait project is an impressive display of artful symbolism from the Singapore-based young photographer. Each image portrays Woon floating and distraught as if to portray restlessness in a surreal manner. She explains that her work is a reflection of both her worldview and internal struggle.

“When I am zoomed in, everything in the universe is dark except for the inside of my head…When I am zoomed out, I am floating in space somewhere” says Woon of ‘Surreality.’

Although this is a dramatic and very personal project, it displays themes that ring true to her audience. Her work also displays a knack for editing and an avant-garde imagery that adheres to modern aesthetics.
