Prismatic Paper Jewelry
Suite by Kirsten Hassenfeld Addresses Wealth and Luxury

By: Meghan Young (Superstar) Feb 21, 12
{SummaryTitle}

The art installation titled Suite by Kirsten Hassenfeld is as beautiful as a cut diamond. That is because the sculptures are inspired by the gems and jewels used in women’s accessories. In place of these precious stones, the artist uses paper to recreate prismatic properties.

Suite by Kirsten Hassenfeld explores and questions the value of actual jewelry. Constantly fascinated with consumer culture, as her last installation of artistic junk proves, Hassenfeld often addresses the ideas of luxury, wealth and monetary success.

An abundance of translucent paper was used in Suite by Kirsten Hassenfeld. They were laboriously cut and glued together to form intricately designed polygons. Strung along together and draped from the ceiling, the stunning shapes create large strands of necklace-like paper sculptures.
