Solar Powered Trash Cans
The 'Big Belly' Compacts Garbage Using Sun Energy

By: Shelby Lee Walsh (Rockstar) May 31, 09
{SummaryTitle}

There is a new edition to 15th Street and JFK boulevard in Philadelphia: The first ever “Big Belly.” This trash compactor is completely solar powered and is a green solution to our current garbage problem.

The “Big Belly” only has to be emptied a mere five times per week as opposed to regular bins that need attention roughly 19 times a week. By July 2010, there will be more than 500 “Big Bellies” installed and 210 of those will have an added bonus of a recycling bin.

This invention is sure to save time, fuel costs, and greenhouse gas emissions.
