Sun-Powered View Screens
Philips Conceptualizes a Solar Powered OLED Sunroof

By: Michael Hines (Superstar) Jan 25, 12
{SummaryTitle}

Electronics maker Philips and chemical company BASF have designed a conceptual solar-powered OLED sunroof. The sunroof would be covered in transparent solar cells that would let light in during the day while also collecting it for use at night.

At night the stored energy would be used to power an overhead light. There have been many designs like this before, but the fact that Philips is working on it with an established chemical company is something to be excited about. The automotive industry has made some amazing strides in their attempts to go green, but they can’t be expected to do it all alone. It could take an electronics company such as Philips taking the reigns to make a concept like the solar-powered OLED sunroof become a reality.
