Exhausted Subway Captures
Nicholas Barker’s Sleeping Video Showcases Human Vulnerability

By: Ian Andrew Panganiban (Star) Jun 12, 13

Nicholas Barker’s video showcases human vulnerability in a physical form.

Japanese people are known for having long work hours. The ‘Tokyo Dreams’ video by Barker features exhausted and asleep people in the Tokyo subway systems. It’s normal to see a random stranger on the bus or train fall asleep, and sometimes you’ll catch yourself staring at them for no particular reason. The fascination in strangers is one of Barker’s main themes in his video.

Tired office workers and exhausted families are just some of the subjects of the captures this interesting video. There are many ways to encapsulate vulnerability; Barker’s interpretation of this is by capturing the rawest form that vulnerability can take place, which is through sleeping—people are most vulnerable when all their senses are shut down.
