Elevators are something used on a daily basis, but people never really stop to think about the mechanics behind this fascinating machine, as revealed in the Skyscraper Lifts infographic.

Created by Davies Elevator, this infographic reveals stunning facts and figures about elevators in gigantic structures all over the world. Although the newly built Burj Dubai tower is the tallest in the world, its elevators are not the fastest. The world’s fastest elevator is in Taipei, Taiwan, where a 1,671 foot building can hoist people up and bring them down in a matter of 39 seconds.

Six of the world’s fastest elevators reside in developing nations in Asia and the Middle East where the population is escalating.
