Bagel-Shaped Body Mods
Saline Infusions Give People an Eccentric Look for One Evening

{SummaryTitle}

People tend to agree that body modification begins to occur somewhere between ear piercing and an ear pointing. Saline Infusions are a fairly recent form of epidermal altering that is catching on quite quickly amongst the alternative youth culture in Japan.

Photographer Ryoichi “Keroppy” Maeda was instrumental in bringing this bizarre practice to eastern Asia, and described for Vice Style what it entails and what exactly the attraction is. Requiring no implants, a salt water solution in an IV bag is injected under the skin of the “patient.” Many people prefer to apply this to their faces.

After two hours of allowing the region to swell, the needles are removed, and should your finger have been pressed into the area for the duration of the proceedure, a doughnut shape may be created. The look that Saline Infusions afford only lasts for one night on the town, and the skin gradually contracts back to normal by the next morning.
