Hidden Courtyard Complexes
Romera y Ruiz Arquitectos' Design Conceals a Stunningly Secretive Abode

By: Brandon Bastaldo (Prodigy) Apr 22, 13

As most cities around the world continue to expand the popularity of compact condominiums, architectural studio Romera y Ruiz Arquitectos’ concealed courtyard apartment complexes are showing that confined living space doesn’t always have to dictate design aesthetic.

Situated on a social housing block in the Spanish Canary Islands, Romera y Ruiz Arquitectos’ concealed courtyard design is fronted by breathtaking pleated facades that wondefully contrast with their minimally illuminated architectural surroudings.

The chic outer design of these jointed apartments located in Las Palmas aren’t the only amazing feature of this complex, as this look was cleverly crafted in order to disguise three brightly lit courtyards. By including outdoor space on the inside of these social housing buildings, Romera y Ruiz Arquitectos’ skillfully combines designer architecture with the hidden, natural beauty of the city.
