Sun-Soaking Submarines
The Reef Explorer Surveys the Sea Without Harming Marine Habitats

By: Amelia Roblin (Superstar) Apr 27, 11
{SummaryTitle}

It’s logical that the people who enjoy Earth’s beauty most are sensitive in protecting it, and the Reef Explorer by Gert-Jan van Breugel offers a mechanism for discovering the depths of the ocean without contributing pollution.

The vessel embraces a tripartite form that cuts across the surface of the sea with three aerodynamic, blade-like elements. The middle one acts as an underwater cabin, encased in a hull of transparent polycarbonate windowing, while the two flanking pontoons provide added floatation and a skin of solar panels.

Planned for ocean use around the equator, the lightweight polyethylene submarine will gain great advantage from the sun’s rays. The Reef Explorer is powered by two quiet 12V motored propellers that guarantee a clean journey.
