Even if you never made little figurines from potatoes as a child, you can probably still appreciate the playfulness of the Potato Family of furnishings. Designer Floris Wubben worked in collaboration with artist Bauke Fokkema to bring the simple and nostalgic creations of children to a grander scale for practical use.
A solid cut of Dutch fir wood was used to form each yam and loosely cubic sections were carved from this. These irregular voids make ideal cubbies for stashing a variety of objects, tidying up kids’ rooms and kitchens. Polished stainless steel rods were given pointed ends to act like magnified toothpicks. These were seemingly unsystematically stuck through the thick lumber to form the legs and connections between the Potato Family, in the charming manner of a young child.
