Terrific Trash Tapestries
Pot of Wisdom by El Anatsui Features Liquor Bottle Cap Art

{SummaryTitle}

Tapestries made out of thread are already impressive works of art, but the Pot of Wisdom exhibit showcases another kind of tapestry that rivals their beauty. Strangely, these tapestries are made out of trash—dirty, rusted and smashed liquor bottle caps, to be exact.

Created by Ghanaian sculptor El Anatsui, who has been making waves in the art world for a number of years now, the Pot of Wisdom exhibit showcases his most recent work. Currently on display at the Jack Shainman Gallery, the tapestries have been hung on the wall, and yet don’t lay flat. Instead, they are given added dimension by way of their undulating surfaces and shiny metals.

The Pot of Wisdom exhibit will run until the summer.
