Artist Lauren Kaelin re-created popular memes into abstract art depictions.
The Internet is filled with vast amounts of tomfoolery. Every day people are depicted in ways that weren’t possible a few decades ago. Kaelin’s paintings are mostly compromised of depictions of popular memes. The memes are timeless, but by painting them on canvasses, it adds a unique distinction to them—no matter how ridiculous the memes are. Titled ‘Benjameme,’ the series of popular meme paintings showcases how powerful and influential a meme can become.
Classical art pieces always showcase a form of connection with the current times. Kaelin’s meme portraits represent the status quo of this generation. It may be comedic and ridiculous, but the paintings do showcase a truth a certain truth about the current type of society people live in.
