If you grew up in the golden age of arcades alongside classic video games like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter and Final Fight, then this pixel painting of Street Fighter II’s start up screen will give you a real kick.
The pixel painting was done painstakingly by hand over 800 hours on three canvases. When Street Fighter II started off, the camera would point at the top of a nondescript building before zooming down to street level to show two guys about to engage in fisticuffs. The pixel painting by Maya Pixelskaya comes on three canvases, each of which is a square foot in dimension. The impressive final product was achieved by printing a grid onto the canvas and then painting in each block of the grid by hand, one by one.
