It’s great that light switches haven’t changed much over the past generation, meaning that you’re more likely to have success with one even when you’re half asleep, but the refined design of this Piano Light Switch is tempting enough to throw off the time-honored system.
This particular switch plate project was undertaken by David dos Santos for Lithoss Designed Switches, and it could hardly look more alien. The wall-mounted electrical cover looks a lot like a vertical model of floorboards being pried apart from each other.
My understanding of the Piano Light Switch is that, in a dark room, the upturned edges emit a glow from underneath for ease of nighttime locating, and that a careful depression of the “piano keys” will turn your overhead lamp on or off.
