Musical Instrument Architecture
Piano House was Modeled on Tuneful Objects for Complete Harmony

By: Amelia Roblin (Superstar) Sep 26, 13
{SummaryTitle}

The phrase “form follows function” comes to mind when you gaze at the Piano House, but the look of the building was literally inspired by the sorts of objects that you might find inside of it. Designed by the Huainan Fangkai Decoration Project Company in collaboration with students from the Hefey University of Technology in Huainan, China, the edifice is a sight that engages the senses.

Enormously scaled-up models of a grand piano and a violin form the masses of the building, housing practice rooms inside. Commissioned by the local government, the institution is intended to inspire and serve music lovers and to attract the attention of people from all over the province to the newly developing area. The Piano House strives to harmonize as monumental sculpture and contemporary architecture at once.
