{SummaryTitle}

While some people may look to grander gestures to save the planet as well as reduce those expensive electricity bills, the Philips Sustainable Toaster is a small step in the right direction. Its uncommonly crossed design may take precedence at first, but as soon as a person learns that it is powered by kinetic energy harnessed by way of a static bike, that detail will be pushed to the bottom of the list.

The Philips Sustainable Toaster was created by Spanish designer Miren Arrieta-Odria. Second runner up at the the Domestic Appliances Design Award organized by Philip-TUDelft, is also uses 34 percent less energy thanks to its four insulated compartments. This allows people to toast single slices of bread at a time.
