Photographer Per Johansen Comments on the Modern Food Industry

Danish photographer Per Johansen turns his lens on the food industry with his strangely grotesque photo-series entitled ‘Full.’ The intriguing project features images of food jammed and crushed into large plastic vessels. Enough to make the viewer raise an eyebrow and feel a slight twinge of nausea, this attention-grabbing work illustrates modern humanity’s strange relationship with food.

Much of what finds its way home from the grocery store with us has been manipulated in some way. Food is by nature an organic substance with a finite cycle. If not consumed, meat will rot and greens will wilt, but when food is manipulated man robs organic substances of their natural process. The ‘Full’ photo series illustrates a tenuous relationship between the real and plastic aspects of the modern diet.
