Chimerical Creature Sculptures
The Paul Kasmin Gallery 'Les Lalanne' Exhibition is Magical

By: Shiori Mine (Star) May 16, 12

Surrealistic shape-shifting animals are in no shortage at the Paul Kasmin Gallery ‘Les Lalanne’ exhibition. The newly installed exhibit showcases over 30 works by French artists and couple Claude Lalanne and François-Xavier Lalanne. The show consists of a series of bronze and poured sculptures, mostly fashioned to represent exotic and earthly creatures. The phantasmagorical wildlife are often fused with characteristics one would normally associate with furniture or household items.

Some of the highlight pieces from the exhibit include a banquet bench cast with two life-size crocodiles ensnaring the seat’s back. There is also an intricately sculpted headless chicken and cabbage cross-breed sitting ominously on its pedestal. The show also includes Claude Lalanne’s widely recognized ginkgo leaf patterns adorned on a statuesque bronze throne.

The Paul Kasmin Gallery ‘Les Lalanne’ exhibition is an awe-inspiring and luxurious display of the couple’s chimerical work.
