Dilapidated Cuban Sportsgrounds
Parque Deportivo Jose Marti by Olly Burn was Once a Symbol of Hope

The Parque Deportivo Jose Marti photo series captures a dilapidated sportsground that was once a symbol of hope and now is a disappointing reminder of a fruitless future. Located in Havana, Cuba, the stadium was originally constructed in 1940 but was eventually left virtually forgotten from the 1970s onwards.

Olly Burn captured what remains of the enduring Parque Deportivo Jose Marti. As It’s Nice That beautifully puts it, “Bathed in dying light and dusty pastel shades, he paints a portrait of the space as both a memorial and witness to what has gone before.”

Eerily excluded from guidebooks and maps, Parque Deportivo Jose Marti nevertheless still exists as the London-based photographer set out to prove. Even though it does so quite questionably.
