Giant Aluminium Spheres
'Nouaison' by Hoberman Associates is a Tribute to Wine Making

By: Alexandra Serrano (Star) Oct 1, 12

The installation titled ‘Nouaison’ by Hoberman Associates is a larger-than-life tribute to a critical stage in wine making.

As one of the largest installations that the design firm has ever created, the aesthetics of this piece are certainly ambitious. The piece is located at a Bordeaux winery named Château Smith Haut Lafitte. The French winery has been in business since the 14th century, and adds to its old-world charm with ultra modern installations.

Nouasion was inspired by a quintessential part of the wine making process. According to Co. Design, the origins of the name come from “a French term describing the stage of growth when grapevines first develop their fruit.” This first development influences the Bordeaux wine’s production. ‘Nouaison’ by Hoberman Associates makes for a visually stimulating modern monument to the craft of wine making in contrast to the charming French landscape where it stands.
