Electric Walking Frames
Murata Manufacturing Develops a Self-Balancing Walker for Seniors

By: Meghan Young (Superstar) Oct 27, 11

With all the technology being put into mobility products such as Segways, scooters, wheelchairs and more, it is quite surprising that it has taken this long for a company like Murata Manufacturing to create an electric walker for elders. Murata Manufacturing’s new self-balanced, power-assisted walking frame will help senior citizens maintain mobility without getting tired too quickly.

Murata Manufacturing’s electric walker essentially uses technology from the company’s promotional robots, Murata Seisaku-kun and Murata Seiko-chan, which prevent users from falling over. Gyro sensors detect the stance of the user’s body in order to automatically and pre-emptively adjust itself, providing extra support when there’s a risk of the user falling.

Unfortunately, Murata Manufacturing will not be putting the electric walker on the market in the foreseeable future.
