Textile-Inspired Wrappers
Monggo Chocolate Packaging Expresses the Elegant Detail of Batik Dyeing

By: Amelia Roblin (Superstar) Jan 12, 12

It is a brand identity designer’s challenge to make mere paper look luxurious in order to best present a high quality product, and the strategy used for Monggo Chocolate packaging was to decorate the desserts’ wrappers like exquisite textiles.

The Javan art of Batik fabric treatment inspired the magnificent motifs that cover each scrumptious bar of chocolate. An assortment of elaborate designs ornament one end of every envelope to signify a certain extravagant sophistication. Circles, diamonds, lines and florals are printed in deluxe gold, beige and brown inks to reference the monochromatic cloth dyeing process of Indonesia.

Maintaining an aesthetic balance, Jonathan Krisyadi has left the other part of Monggo Chocolate packaging pattern-free with a plain background, a bit of text and a photo of each dessert next to its exotic ingredients.
