‘Migrating Floating Gardens’ by Rael San Fratello Architects proposes a floating solution for plant life in dense urban environments. The Migrating Floating Gardens are suspended in the air from remotely-controlled airships, and will move to areas with the greatest heat island effect.

Each airship will contain thousands of smaller plants and vines, and sensors to detect real-time weather, noise, traffic, and pollution. Using GPS and GIS, the Migrating Floating Gardens will navigate the city like shade- and oxygen-giving UFOs before returning to their base to recharge their photovoltaic skins.
