Sensual Caffeinated Portraits
This Series by Michael Aaron Williams Stains Antiquated Paper

By: Alexander Lam (Star) Aug 3, 13

A series of paintings by artist Michael Aaron Williams use coffee and ancient paper to illustrate people. The amazing portraits use coffee stains with incredible effectiveness. As a result of the antique feel of the paper, the paintings have an elegant and vintage feel. Williams took the caffeinated beverage and painted beautiful streaked images. Each painting has intricate shading that emphasizes the strange medium.

Williams chose to use coffee and old paper because of the color compositions. According to the artist, “Coffee is a great medium because it has a natural organic color. It seems to just fit right in to the natural colors found in antique paper.” The portraits use ledger paper from the 1920s and 1930s.
