First Angelina Jolie is too skinny, now Jessica Simpson is too fat. The media’ mixed messages about ideal body image is getting ridiculously hard to follow. This cluster highlights some of the different ways various media outlets, photoshop artists and celebrities have expressed their views of acceptable body image.
On the one hand, designers like Calvin Klein are embracing curvier models. On the other, companies like Campari are photoshopping buff celebs like Jessica Alba to make them even slimmer. The tabloids are going crazy about Jessica Simpson having gained too much weight, while actresses like Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox are asked to put on the pounds.
As the debate continues, the media coverage will likely just escalate; opinions will get more diverse and passionate, leading to immense confusion for women. We think it’s hard for us? What about the stars?
