Yesterday we featured the Embrace Infant Warmer, the winner of McKinsey’s Social Innovation Video Contest, and today we’re diving deeper into what the global management consulting firm is doing with their What Matters initiative.
McKinsey launched the venture as part of their digital publication, McKinsey on Society, for McKinsey’s Social Sector Office, which examines leading research into sustainable practices aimed at solving major global problems: Global Health, Economic Development, Education, Social Innovation and Sustainability.
“We believe innovation is key,” their site says on McKinsey’s What Matters. “Our goal is to create a hub where we can highlight the incredible work taking place around the world and where changemakers can share new ideas and best practices. We want to create a platform that draws attention to these innovators, so that we can celebrate their hard work and have them take their place alongside the world’s most recognized voices in social innovation.”
To complement the research, multimedia and contests they’re sharing, McKinsey has a group of experts in the field as part of their What Matters contributors. This includes big names like Michael Bloomberg, Judith Rodin (President, Rockefeller Foundation), Blake Mycoskie (Founder and CEO of TOMS), Jonathan Greenblatt (Director of Social Innovation at the White House), Dr. Armida Fernandez (Ashoka Fellow), Ben Stone & Nicole Miller (President and CEO, Indego Africa), Matt Damon & Gary White (Water.org founders), and leaders behind organizations like Livestrong, the Gates Foundation, ONE Campaign, and IDEO.
