Women cooperatives in Nepal and India is where Mata Traders sources its fair trade artisan designs. Like many social businesses working with handicraft and artisan groups in less-industrialized countries, the worker rights don’t stop at a livable wage. Childcare is offered on the premises for the mothers who need it and health care is also available.
Mata Traders offers a range of clothing, jewelry, fashion accessories and home decor. One of the core designs in the company is based on block printing, which is stemmed from India’s history of fabric production. Due to industrialization, many weavers and block printers have found it difficult to find employment, which is where Mata wishes to come in.
