Furniture-Materializing Guns
The 'Making Guns' Instantly Create Amorphous Furniture

By: Alexander Lam (Star) Jun 26, 13

A series of furniture-creating tools called ‘Making Guns’ by designer James Shaw instantly form usable furniture. Each of Shaw’s ingenious guns sprays a different material which forms to create beautiful furniture. Guns that extrude papier mâché, pewter and plastic were created as part of the Making Guns collection.

Using each of the three guns, Shaw created unique pieces of furniture. With the papier mâché gun, the artist sprayed wire frames to make shelves and stools. Shaw used the plastic gun to create amorphous tables and night stands.

The Making Guns employ some brilliant engineering to achieve the desired quick-forming effect. The papier mâché gun sprays paper fiber and water that binds mid-air to form a solid substance. The pewter gun melts the metal and sprays it out like a liquid before it cools and re-solidifies.
