Eclectic Couch Upholstery
The Maharam Polder Sofa References the Patchwork Patterns of Farmland

{SummaryTitle}

In an age of particularly multifarious design tastes, objects like the Maharam Polder Sofa are easily appreciated. For one thing, the piece is remarkably unique, and for another, its various components are even distinctive from each other.

Made by Hella Jongerius for Vitra, the contemporary chesterfield references the Dutch landscape. It’s low to the floor and quite long, alluding to the polders of the Netherlands. A collection of cushions in a range of different sizes and dimensions appear to mimic the many agricultural fields that abut each other in rural regions. Six individual textiles upholster the pillows and padding of the Maharam Polder Sofa with warm brown fabrics that are accented with orange plaids, floral motifs and more traditional patterns.
