Loic Prigent, the man behind the illuminating fashion documentaries “Signe Chanel” and “March Jacobs & Louis Vuitton” will once again turn his lens to the fashion industry in a new series airing in September for the Sundance Channel.
The series, which will air in four separate 51-minute segments, is entitled “The Day Before” and follows four design houses and five designers: Karl Lagerfeld for Fendi, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough of Proenza Schouler, Sonia Rykiel, and Jean Paul Gaultier for the 36 hours leading up to their respective Fall RTW 2009 shows and the latter’s Fall 2009 couture show.
Loic Prigent’s “The Day Before” will focus on the trials and tribulations that make up the messy and cutthroat world of fashion, but the filmmaker’s main interests, as always, are the characters and relationships that come to life in the mad-scramble hours before the debut of a collection.
Despite the fashion industry’s demanding and diva-creating reputation, expect a professional and upbeat tone to the series. As one of Loic Prigent’s subjects, Sonia Rykiel’s President and Artistic Director Nathalie Rykiel, puts it, “Loïc is unique in his way of capturing the intensity of fashion and the craziness but at the same time the deepness of it,” she says. “He gets feelings and irony.”
“The Day Before” airs for four nights starting September 9th at 10pm.
