This Japanese lettuce-growing vending machine grows salad greens with fluorescent bulbs instead of sunlight and can produce more than 20,000 heads of lettuce a year. It’s good to know that even in a nuclear winter, we can grow lettuce.
The portable florescent lettuce-growing vending machine is being marketed by Dentsu Facility Management Inc. under the name “Chef’s Farm.” It sells for about $90,000. Marketing is targeted to restaurants that want to include on-premise produce production in their offerings.
