Recycled Machinery Playgrounds
The 'Kinderparadijs Meidoorn' Fun Zone Winds Kids Up

By: Vivian Lau (Star) Jun 10, 12

Parents who take their kids to the jungle gym at the nearest park worry only minimally about its dangers, but what will they think of the ‘Kinderparadijs Meidoorn’ fun zone, a playground fashioned from the scraps of old windmills?

Mothers, breath a sigh of relief, this park was created by architects at 2012Architecten to be completely safe, as it was their goal to make a statement about reusing waste materials. The old windmill blades were sourced from nearby areas for materials that could both use a makeover and withstand the ravages of nature and a young child’s spastic excitement. With hollow centers and aero-dynamic and water-proof features, these wings proved to be the perfect playground piece.

This Netherland playground is evidence that old machinery and large architectural structures can be put to better use, as there is no point letting them waste away, unused. It only takes a few creative minds to turn old infrastructure into new.
