Rustic Runway Minimalism
Raf Simons' Nature-Inspired Collection for Jil Sander Spring 2010

By: Marissa Liu (Rockstar) Sep 30, 09

Raf Simons described the Jil Sander Spring 2010 collection as “going back into nature,” and “quite simple, as well as intellectual.” That was why his clothes took on rough edges in which layers of fabric were peeled back and left hanging in patches. The patchwork of linen and gauze tailoring and manipulated knitwear concealed and revealed skin in unexpected ways.

In keeping with the minimalist nature of the label, the Jil Sander Spring 2010 collection was far more conceptual than the images the term ‘rustic’ might normally conjure. Simons was directly inspired by land artists and Antonioni’s 1970 film Zabriskie Point. Noticeably absent from the Jil Sander Spring 2010 runway was current campaign girl, supermodel Natasha Poly.
