Jesus Gonzales recently completed a series of perception-bending photographs. The shoots are essentially portraits but with a twist—they show more than one angle of their subject’s faces. Beyond just this, they create an optical illusion such that a phantom face appears adjacent to the real one.
At first glance the photographs seem natural. This initial impression fades quickly into inquisitiveness as one realizes that one is looking at a face from multiple angles at once.
Jesus Gonzales started the series in 2009 and only just completed it this year. Perception is a tricky thing and photography is is a great medium to play with it in.
