Subtle LEGO Photography
The in Pieces Series Focuses on Scenes That Require Deconstruction

{SummaryTitle}

The In Pieces photo series is artistically stark, comprised of tableau scenes that are strikingly cinematic. All about the details, it is interesting to note that each image features a unique LEGO sculpture. So subtle are these playful editions that at first they would go completely unnoticed.

A collaboration project between sculptor Nathan Sawaya and photographer Dean West, the In Pieces photo series invites people to deconstruct each scene, not only to find the LEGO sculptures, but also to expose the “elements of the construction of cultural identity itself,” as written by West. Chillingly minimalist, the desolate scenes are accentuated by the subject’s empty stares, which in turn highlight the aloof and displaced vibe in each image.

West likens the aesthetic of the In Pieces images to the American postcard due to their coloring.
