Humanity Versus Sci-Fi
Neil deGrasse Tyson's Human Progress Keynote Compares Society to Movies

By: Kyle Towers (Star) Mar 18, 13
{SummaryTitle}

In Neil deGrasse Tyson’s human progress keynote, he compares humanity to a fictional movie. The movie in question is 2001: A Space Odyssey. In order to achieve this comparison he takes notable elements from the movie and compares them to where we were as a species in 2001.

Some major predictions the movie made was that computers would be larger which would make them more powerful, there would be a space station under construction and we would have inhabitants on the moon.

His human progress keynote establishes that we are actually more advanced than what Stanley Kubrick’s movie predicted. With the exception of not having inhabitants on the moon, we matched or bettered most of the comparisons in 2001.
