Floating Bamboo Abodes
H&P Architects Designs a House that Embraces Floods

By: Meghan Young (Superstar) Apr 16, 13
{SummaryTitle}

H&P Architects is a Vietnamese firm that has dreamed up what could be a revolutionary housing design that embraces floods instead of getting destroyed by them. A problem especially common in South East Asia, which will only increase over the coming years as the climate continues to change, H&P Architects’ house is meant to be fashioned out of lightweight bamboo material that help it to float not sink when waters begin to rise.

What really makes H&P Architects’ house design float however are the empty oil containers built into the base of the structure. Of course, they could drift away. To prevent that misfortune, the homes are tethered to the ground with a series of ropes and anchors. They can be constructed by locals.
