The Big Apple got a bit greener this week as the eco-friendly Greenhouse nightclub opened its doors. The 6,000-square-foot club is the first in the state of New York to apply for LEED certification, and Greenhouse has a host of environmentally-conscious features to boost its chances for approval.
Greenhouse is lit by LED lights throughout, and the electricity required to power the entire nightclub—from the dance floor lights to the powerful sound system—is entirely derived from wind power. The bathrooms are fitted with waterless urinals and low-flow toilets. Bamboo walls and eight varieties of actual leaves provide sustainable ambience.
And the eco-friendly Greenhouse has even taken the extra measure to outfit its staff with Edun sustainable clothing, a venture Bono and his wife own that is based in Africa.
Greenhouse is located at 150 Varick Street in SoHo.
