Upcycled Gondola Vending Machines
The 'Vending Machine' is a Giant Dispenser of Rubber Balls

By: Alexander Lam (Star) Jun 6, 13

Using old gondolas, designers Baker Wardlaw and Yves Decoppet created a giant dispenser of balls called ‘Vending Machine.’ The installation turns a gondola into an oversized classic gumball machines. Within the Vending Machine are large rubber bouncy balls of various designs and colors. At the bottom of the machine is a coin slot so that you can actually buy a ball.

Wardlaw and Decoppet created the machine because the gondola carriage reminded them of the classic gumball dispensers. According to the artists, “the materials and the shape of the gondola really do remind [you of] the classic and popular vending machine.”

The ball dispensers were created as part of the Verbier Mountain Climbers project at Design Miami. The aim of the project is to raise money for charity. The gondolas were taken from the Swiss village of Verbier for artists to reappropriate as art.
