Page-Flipping Eyewear
The Fraunhofer Glasses Tracks Eye Movements for True Handsfree Experience

By: Meghan Young (Superstar) Nov 9, 12

The Fraunhofer Glasses have taken eyewear technology to the next level. While the Google glasses ushered in the idea of everyday computing in a conveniently handsfree manner, the Fraunhofer Glasses doesn’t simply absorb information passively unless directed by an accompanying joystick. Instead, it is equipped with eye-tracking technology that allows people to truly record and communicate handsfree.

For instance, the Fraunhofer Glasses allows a people to flip a page of a digital book with the movement of their eyes. This is achieved by using photodiodes to track eye movements and an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) micro-display.

Developed in Germany by Fraunhofer Research Institution for Organics, Materials and Electronic Devices, Project manager Dr. Rigo Herold admits that the Google glasses may be more stylish, but the Fraunhofer Glasses are much more functional.
