Floating Residences
A River Runs Through the 'Hindi House' by John Pardey Architects

By: Nika Kubiak (Prodigy) Jun 10, 09

Everyone dreams of a waterfront house, but not too many can actually live on the water. John Pardey Architects did just that. They designed Hindi House for which they have won an award for architectural excellence in the 2009 RIBA Awards from the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Nature inspired residents sits on the river bank and, from time to time, the Hindi House is surrounded by water. The photos above are actually taken during periodical flooding. The house has living and bedroom spaces with a staircase leading to a balcony. It’s a cedar and zinc-clad marvel with a beautiful outdoor room with a large deck. The steps lead to the garden and high columns underneath the house prevent flooding from the river.

Wall to wall windows are inviting the outdoors in and creating a true feeling of being one with mother nature.
