Suspended Cocooned Portraits
Floating by Andrew Brodhead Explores Human Consumption and Waste

By: Meghan Young (Superstar) Nov 22, 12

The photo series titled Floating by Andrew Brodhead could represent many things. From a lack of interaction with nature to the idea of personal metamorphosis, the cocooned individuals placed in natural surroundings are slightly ambiguous in meaning. Nevertheless, the series was inspired by a concrete concept. The American photographer sources his first job at his parent’s health food store as a major influence. Realizing how much wasn’t recycled by the city, he writes, “Visually, I want to convey the sacrifice we have made by our consumption and waste. The wrapped bodies represent invasive cocoons floating over vulnerable landscapes.”

Though-provoking and beautiful to behold, Floating by Andrew Brodhead holds holds a deeper meaning than anyone could have assumed.
