Imagine this: a cellphone that changes shape in order to assume different roles and carry out different tasks. This is what’s proposed in the Evolution of Mobile project. Designers at the Seoul National University of Science and Technology have dreamed up a modular mobile phone that’s made up of reconfigurable triangular units.
The innovative smartphone concept comprises four three-sided modules that can be connected to form different shapes and manipulated to fold at their seams. If you arrange them alternatingly in a series, you end up with a standard handset in call mode; a triangular form gives you a digital camera; and a fanned shape gives you read and browse mode. The Evolution of Mobile is therefore not all about command buttons, but encourages you to interact in a more tactile way.
