Engagement from Serendipity
Eric Saperston Discusses Pushing Yourself to the Edge

By: Sophia Pelka (Star) Mar 13, 12

After graduating university, Eric Saperston set out on a journey of self-discovery. He bought a Volkswagen Bus and aspired to follow the Grateful Dead and work for one season at an Aspen ski resort. He filmed his journey as well as the experiences he shared with his four new friends.

Touching on his documentary, Saperston’s speech explores the concept of serendipity. He defines it as having an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident. He argues that you can increase these odds by working outside of your comfort zone, and pushing the practise of spontaneous action. Working on the edge keeps your perspective on life alert and energized. Evolving your personal boundaries allows you to become more engaged not only in life, but also in work.
